Embracing Teaching As My True Calling

     📚Teaching isn’t just an ordinary job, it’s a profession, a vocation, and a mission.

I began my journey in Pharmacy, where I write endless lab reports and slept late at nights to review for tests. But despite my best efforts, I ended up failing one of my classes and that was a turning point for me. I remember myself sitting on the end of my bed in a corner days after Christmas, thinking of changing program. It was at that point, I thought – of my younger self – a little girl  who once tell everyone, “gusto ko maging teacher para makahawak ng chalk,” and who loved to play-pretend with her imaginary students. It was this memory that helped me to see that perhaps my true calling was not in medicine but rather, education.

After a week into the field of education, it made me understand that teaching is like a collage, where you put in different kind of picture, but you still can create a beautiful masterpiece. It’s not just about licenses or standards, but responsibility, decency, and service. The profession of teaching requires expertise and accountability. Teaching is a calling. It requires a quiet strength. Your motivation can be seen in your concern for the students’ abilities and their progress.

I now view myself as a teacher with the potential to inspire. I want my classroom to be a flexible place where we try new things, dream up new possibilities and design engaging, meaningful curriculum. I strive to build more relationships, more conversations and more collaboration. Helping people through their days has become the new curriculum.
